Biographical Sketch

Larry Adler was born in White Plains, New York on July 10, 1939. He received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in 1961, then proceeded to London where he earned his Diploma in Business Education from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1964. He finished at the Sorbonne, University of Paris in 1965 with a Certificate in French. Adler has been an advertising copywriter and free-lance writer since 1965. After serving in the United States Army from 1961-1962, he joined the Army National Guard at Camp Smith in New York in 1975, where he is a member of the 199th Army Band. As of 1984, Adler held the rank of staff sergeant.

Adler's writings are for juvenile audiences, beginning with the sports biography Man with a Mission: Pele (1976). He followed this with Young Women in the World of Race Horses (1978) and Famous Horses of America (1979). The Texas Rangers was published in 1979, then Adler returned to the world of sports with Heroes of Soccer (1980). Adler's father taught him that knowing the right person was a major factor in going far in the world. Adler states that for him this certainly was the case, as knowing the right person enabled him to publish his first book.

Scope and Content

This collection contains materials for three titles. For Famous Horses in America we hold photographs, paste-ups, galleys, proofs and blues. A typescript is held for Heroes of Soccer and The Texas Rangers has a typescript, photographs, paste-up, galleys and blues.
