To fellow member of the bill smith family: If we are going to save our democracy, we must first find out what democracy really is, and second, know in what way our democracy is in danger and be able to intelligently recognize the dangers no matter how they may be camouflaged. \
\
President Lincoln defined democracy to be, \'93the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.\'94 Democracy is the product of millions of men and women; much of their record has been written in blood, sweat, and tears. \
\
The best way to save democracy is by the power of public opinion based on adequate discussion, and on a timely recognition of the influence of passing events in the shaping of events to come. If public opinion is displaced by the influence and power of self-seeking bureaucrats, then the kind of democracy our forefathers gave their lives for and our brave men are now giving their lives for will be lost, and we shall have in it stayed a totalitarian form of government, and then government will be master and the people servants.\
\
Our forefathers brand of democracy, the only kind that is worth saving, first began to see the light of day 322 years ago in the Mayflower compact, which was drafted in the name of God, and the colony, which it founded, was founded for the glory of God.\
\
I don\'92t know of a better way for us to become clearer and better thinkers than to return to the standard of American patriotism as establish by our forefathers. Someone once said that the American republic will endure as long as the ideas of the man who founded it continued dominant. We should again and again refresh our memories of those ideas of men like Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Wilson and other great leaders, who played an important part in establishing and preserving that brand of democracy which has made this country great.\

These brave forefathers of ours, whose lives are God centered and who applied to the Bible in a practical way to there every day lives, did not look for Social Security in spite of their almost indescribable sufferings and hardships Pop. These Pilgrims and Puritans were pioneers of true Americanism. They left England because of the planned economy, regimentation, bureaucracy, dictatorship, government interference with religious worshiping with the operation of their everyday affairs, and all of those isms which had destroyed their liberties and freedom.\
