AI Research Tool Available for Testing Through University Libraries
News item published on: 2025-07-29 10:38:00University Libraries is pleased to provide access to a generative AI-powered tool that enables you to perform natural language queries against Southern Miss Libraries’ wealth of online academic content. The new AI Research Assistant is operational in a test environment and requires login to access.
We encourage everyone who uses the AI Research Assistant to also complete a feedback survey about your experience. Your feedback will inform University Libraries continued implementation of the AI Research Assistant.
What To Expect Each query will identify the top five relevant sources (such as articles and books) and produce an overview response crafted from the abstracts or other descriptive data of the those five sources—with citations provided. You may explore beyond the top five search results by using the search query generated by the AI Research Assistant in the Seymour Info test environment, but the AI-generated overview is only available for the initial top five search results.
The AI Research Assistant may be searched in languages other than English and will generate the overview response in the same language as the query regardless of the language used in the source materials.
Limitations Please note that content from the following publishers is currently excluded from the tool: APA, DataCite, Elsevier, JSTOR, and Conde Nast. Newspapers and retracted sources are also excluded.
Please be aware that large language models (LLMs) have limitations and may generate inaccurate responses. We recommend users check results for accuracy and verify the responses against the source materials provided.
