Places in the Land, part of the statewide series of exhibitions entitled  “Photographs from the Do Good Fund: A Celebration of Southern Photography” and being held concurrently with USM’s Portraits of Southerners and the Hattiesburg Arts Council’s Portraits by Children, will be on display from October 12 through December 15 in the Cook Library Art Gallery. The public is invited to attend a reception with the photographers on October 12 from 4 - 5:30 p.m.

During its bicentennial year, our first thoughts about Mississippi are likely to come from our deep sense about the land itself. Places in the Land exhibits work by six of Mississippi’s notable landscape photographers. Each artist demonstrates in a series of five prints his or her personal vision of—and reverence for—special places across Mississippi’s remarkably broad and varied landscape.

The photographers are Ashleigh Coleman, Jackson; Thomas Pearson, Hattiesburg; Euphus Ruth, Greenville; David Wharton, Oxford; Brooke White, Oxford; and Malcolm White, Jackson.
