Special Collections Accepting Applications for 2027 Student Curators

University Libraries’ Special Collections is now accepting applications for the Spring 2027 Student Curator Program. Three Southern Miss students will be selected to work with a librarian to create a one-case exhibit featuring materials from Special Collections.

Through this hands-on experience, student curators will learn how to select and prepare items for display, write exhibit text and labels, install an exhibit and promote their work.

Participants will choose a topic and develop an exhibit using materials housed in Special Collections. A list of suggested topics by major is available, but students are encouraged to propose other topics if Special Collections has relevant materials.

The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students at Southern Miss. This unpaid opportunity provides practical experience curating an exhibit using primary sources and other materials from Special Collections. The total time commitment is typically 10–20 hours over four months.
