This collection consists primarily of photographs taken by Jeff McAdory, while employed by The Clarion-Ledger/Jackson Daily News (1979 - 1982) and The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal (1984 - the present). Included are fourteen 9" x 13" mounted black and white photographs that accompanied a series of articles for The Commercial Appeal, titled "Tunica in Black and White", which depict poverty in Tunica County, Mississippi. Copies of the articles (May 4-10, 1986) are included in the collection.

Also in the collection are 47 black and white photographs taken by Jeff McAdory during his tenure at The Clarion-Ledger/Jackson Daily News, that portray life in Mississippi, from the arts, to politics (ca. 1979-1982). A compact disk titled "Memphis and the Mid-South" contains images from the Library of Congress, such as a sharecropper strike and scenes in downtown Memphis (ca. 1910-1930s). The final items are the "Viewpoint" section of the May 11, 1986 Commercial Appeal, an article about Tunica, Mississippi, from the October 5, 1988 Commercial Appeal, and a photocopy of a certificate of award for the "Tunica in Black and White" photographs.

Jeff McAdory is a 1979 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi. In 1983 he received a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for photography. He also conducted the research for the book, I am a Man, the pictorial story of the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike, which was published in 1993.
