Scope and Content Note
The report contained within the collection, written by “A. B. Hurt, Special Agent,” covers topics related to agricultural productivity in the state of Mississippi. Hurt notes that, although the state does not have the geography for mining or the industry for manufacturing, “no State in the Union has been more liberally endowed by nature with all the conditions necessary for agriculture.”
The cover of this edition gives the date of the report as 1883, but the title page of the report itself has the date 1884.
