Abstract: The collection contains a personal letter from R. Griffith to his wife at home on stationary from the Mississippi Compress and Warehouse Company in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Mississippi Compress and Warehouse Company was one of many involved in the storage and compressing of cotton in the state.  In 1904, the company was involved in a lawsuit against two railroad companies (the Alabama & Yazoo Railway Company and the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad Company) that reached the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Scope and Content Note
The collection contains a one-page letter from R. Griffith to his wife and its accompanying envelope from November 1889.  The letterhead reads “Mississippi Compress and Warehouse Company, Receivers of Cotton for Storage or Compressing. Ample and First-Class Warehouse Facilities.”
