Abstract: A scrapbook compiled by Pvt. James H. Little duringand after his service in the U. S. Army during World War I. Pvt. Little spent part of his tour of duty in France.
James Hamilton Little, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Little, was born July 4, 1899. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on January 6, 1918, at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He served in the 147 th Aero Pursuit Squadron of the U. S. Army Air Service, spending part of his tour of duty in France. His military occupation is listed as ?general repair.?
After his military service, Pvt. Little arrived back in the United States on September 5, 1919. In approximately 1920, he went to work with the Winston-Salem, North Carolina City Health Department. On April 19, 1922, he was married to Frances Everette Cheek, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Little was the father of at least one child, a daughter named Eunice, born approximately 1933 or 1934.
Contents of the Collection
This collection consists of a photocopy of a scrapbook relating primarily to Pvt. James Hamilton Little's service in the U. S. Army during World War I. Among the items in the scrapbook are photographs taken by Pvt. Little and some that were purchased by him; a brief handwritten history of World War I; military documents (passes, orders, military paybook); newsletters (?The Trans-Atlantic Dispatch?, ?The Aeolian?); and a list of Pvt. Little's friends. Many of the photographs are identified, and they portray soldiers, French people and locales, equipment, and military bases. Also included are images of Frances Little, Eunice Little, and other friends and relatives.
