A new exhibit featuring the wood turning artistry of Dr. Shahdad Naghshpour is on display at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library in Long Beach.

Naghshpour, professor of international development at Southern Miss Gulf Coast, first began wood turning after purchasing his first lathe in 2010. The following year he joined the Lighthouse Wood Turners Club, and soon after, began an apprenticeship with a master wood turner.

The Gulf Coast Library will host an artists’ talk and reception on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. in room 204. The talk and reception will feature Naghshpour and the photographers from an additional library exhibit showing the beauty of coastal nature. The photography exhibit includes featured photographers Alex North, George Perina, John Stricklin, Jimmy Stroud and Jason Taylor.

Exhibition photographs, both framed and on canvas, as well as Naghshpour’s wood turned works are available for purchase.
