Each month, University Libraries highlights a resource from its collections. This month, we are featuring Dictionary of Literary Biography Complete (DLB). This database provides biographies of more than 14,000 authors, historians, journalists, screenwriters, publishers, and playwrights. Each volume in this service focuses on types of writers from certain time periods. The biographical information is enhanced with photographs or portraits of the authors and images of manuscripts, title pages, and art work associated with the writers’ literary works. Authors both living and deceased are included, and a list of each writer’s literary works are provided at the beginning of each biography. Similarly, a bibliography of selected works about the author and his/her writings is provided at the end of each entry. When using this service, researchers normally consult the DLB Main Series first, and then consult the DLB Documentary Series for supplemental information.
