University Libraries Looking for Mississippi Cookbooks

News item published on: 2015-02-18 09:03:02

As part of its mission to collect materials relating to Mississippi history, Special Collections at Southern Miss is seeking Mississippi cookbooks. The cookbooks currently in our collections and those donated are preserved and made accessible to researchers.  Additionally, these collections help support the research of the Mississippi Community Cookbook Project (http://mscommunitycookbooks.usm.edu).

In particular, Special Collections is looking for Mississippi community cookbooks published by churches, clubs, and organizations; family cookbooks; and cookbooks published in Mississippi.

Special Collections also welcomes gifts of books, papers, records, and other items that would complement its research collections. The collections held in the McCain Library and Archives offer patrons an exciting variety of historical resources ranging from fifteenth-century illuminated manuscripts to current Mississippiana and from the Civil War to the civil rights movement.

If you wish to donate a cookbook, please contact Jennifer Brannock, Curator of Rare Books and Mississippiana, at 601.266.4347 or . You may also mail your cookbook to University Libraries Special Collections, The University of Southern Mississippi, 118 College Drive #5148, Hattiesburg, MS 39406.
