Noted author, Louise Borden, will present a talk at the University Honors Forum on March 31, 2009. Borden, the author of The Journey That Saved Curious George: The True Wartime Escape of Margret and H. A. Rey, will speak to the audience about her lifelong love of books and libraries and how that love led her to her own journey of discovering H. A. and Margret Rey.

Borden ‘s focus will be on how she discovered the Reys' story and their escape from Nazi occupation via bicycle from Paris to Portugal in 1940. The Reys carried the illustrations and manuscript for Curious George on their backs. Borden will discuss her retracing of the route the Reys made in escaping, and she will tell of her own journeys to Hattiesburg to the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection, where she discovered the Rey literary estate, and how she used the amazing archive in writing her book.

This University Honors Forum is a collaborative event between the University Libraries' de Grummond Children's Literature Collection, the University Honors College, the Hattiesburg Arts Council, and the Temple B'Nai Israel Sisterhood. The Forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. A reception and book signing will follow in the rotunda of the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building. There will be reserved parking, so we hope you will plan to join us on March 31, 2009.
